Internet issues Sunday just getting home now so here's my progress

I would like to say that my Unit is close to being 100% decided on in terms of texts, but I recently just changed my YA novel. I was going to use "Thirteen Reasons Why," but now I think I am going to use the YA novel "Played" BY Dana Davidson. I decided to change the novel selection because this past week I realized how the students in the classroom I observe are far more interactive with a text when it is relatable to them as teens, but also culturally relevant to them as African Americans living in urban settings. Not only does this book touch on everyday conflicts students face inside and outside of school, but it also brings in a different focus on decision making. I am extremely excited to use this novel and I can see students truly enjoying the book as something they would WANT to read outside of class. As far as my lessons are going, I am looking forward to continue writing them because the more time I spend with the students at Collins, the more ideas I get.
