For this week, I'm working on my assessment plan. Although, I have a TON of work in front of me. After my meeting with Sarah last week, I've reworked quite a bit of my unit. Since all of us are including several mediums of literature, I'll be teaching my kids how to close read each type. Ultimately, the students final assessment will consist of writing a "how to close read a...(novel, poem, short story, etc.)" paper. At first I was just going to have the students write an analysis paper, but Sarah suggested I should have a more direct approach, and it should correlate more closely with the work we will do throughout the unit.
I was skeptical at first, but now I think it makes sense. When I rework my calendar, I'll have to plan time to scaffold close reading each medium. But for Wednesday, I'll have to write an explanation of my assessment, as well as prepare a rubric.
Gosh, my unit has changed so much. As beneficial as this process is, I'm very much looking forward to the day when I no longer have to stress about it!
